Type Locality and Naming

Along the Urmitan Ridge, Zarafshan-Gissar mountain region. V.D. Saltovskaya in 1959 (460, p. 184). Stratotype in the Snowy stream, right tributary of the Kyzyl-Kul River.

Synonym: Urmitan Suite, Урмитанская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Thin-bedded, massive and flaggy limestones with remnants of foraminifers (fusulinid limestones) with rare layers of siltstone (aleurolites) and sandstones, laterites and bauxites are noted. Thickness up to 100 m.

Lower contact

Lies transgressively on the Oybadam-Dev Fm limestones

Upper contact

It is unconformably overlain by the Obizard Fm.

Contains algae - Avinella comata Chvor., Beressella erecta Masl. et Kul., B. transluces Kul., Samarella setosa Masl. et Kul.; foraminifers - Tuberitina collosa Reitl., Eostaffella aff. exilis Leb., Seminovella carbonica Leb. et Grozd., Ozawainella cf. pararhomboidalis Man., Ammodiscus multivolutus Reitl.; brachiopods - Linoproductus latiplanus Jv. et al.

Age is established by fauna as early Moscovian. On the State Geol Map-500 of Uzbekistan (460) - late Bashkirian-early Moscovian age, which was previously assigned by D.A. Starshinina on the State Geol Map-500, 1984.
